SDI is honored to work side by side with Homes for Our Troops, an organization dedicated to providing our nation’s severely injured veterans with the resources they need for maximum independence. Last week the national nonprofit set an astounding record by completing construction on their 100th specially-adapted home build in less than 77 hours!
Teams of workers led by building partner Atlantic Builders worked around the clock, aided by portable light towers, refueled by donated meals and inspired by Marine Sergeant Kenny Lyon. Sgt. Lyon was on his second deployment near Fallujah, Iraq when a mortar attack left him with severe injuries resulting in the amputation of his left leg. He received the organization’s milestone home at no cost thanks to the generous support of Atlantic Builders, professional tradespeople, countless volunteers, hundreds of donations from numerous individuals, and the community of Fredericksburg, Va.
“This home means that nearly 100 veterans and their families are now living independently in homes that meet their needs, and I am thrilled that we can mark this milestone with such an incredible record” said John Gonsalves, founder and president of Homes for Our Troops.
